3 2 Telefonica, Investigación y Desarrollo The EC recognized these challenges in its Digital Agenda for Europe and launched the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP) The forecasted cumulative effect of the FI-PPP is going to be very significant  Real GDP effect 2020: €28bn  Corresponds to 0,24% of real EU GDP  Cumulative overall positive impact on EU GDP in 2020 is 126bn

4 3 Telefonica, Investigación y Desarrollo The EU Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP) is targeted to capture these new opportunities The FI-PPP is aimed to place Europe in the best position to capture new opportunities in the Future Internet, derived from digitalization of a wide set of economy sectors This requires creating an generic, open and standard platform (FI-WARE) and a dynamic innovation ecosystem around it engaging developers and entrepreneurs eHealth tourism Transport, Mobility and Logistics e-government Smart Energy Grid … EC provides half of the funding: Industry driven, major industry players involved Pan-european dimension

5 4 Telefonica, Investigación y Desarrollo What is genuine in EU FI-PPP Better suited to align with roadmap of product developments by partners:  Industry- and Implementation-driven approach  Results exploitable in the short-medium term (4-5 years) rather than in the long-term (10-15 years) Targeted to attract audience beyond the research community who will be fund to develop applications on top of FI-WARE  Developers  Entrepreneurs  Public Administrations Commitment for exploitation required:  Commercial offer in the short term; or  Delivery of results in open source otherwise
