Please make sure your child has the following supplies with them every day: 3-Subject Spiral Notebook 2-Pocket Folder pencils with erasers blue or black pens red or green pens Colored pencils Covered pencil sharpener glue sticks dry erase markers Calculator (Calculator on phone is ok) Highlighters Available at home: 3x5 index cards Welcome to La Paz Intermediate! Dear students and parents – I have been enjoying the new school year as it’s a time to get to know all of my fabulous students. While this is my 10 th year as a science teacher, it’s my first year at La Paz - and I already love it! I am dedicated to helping each student achieve full potential in the endeavor of building science skills and knowledge. Parents – I love working as a team to ensure student success. I encourage you to participate actively in your student’s education, as I believe your role is a very important one in your child’s development. I encourage you to review your child’s lesson and homework with them regularly, check my website often for important dates and resources, help your student stay organized, and check grades online regularly. (My website address: http://bit.ly/CameyLifeScience15_16) Please make sure that your student has all of their required school supplies at all times.http://bit.ly/CameyLifeScience15_16 Organization in Science Class Maintaining organization of science work will help ensure success. We will use the following organizational tools: Spiral Notebook (3-subject) 1.Sci-Logs: This journal section will be used for warm-ups, goal- setting, reflections, and responding to writing prompts. 2.Interactives: Students will use this section for interactive lessons, mostly done in class. 3.Notes: Important course information will be recorded in this section. Students should refer to their notes when completing assignments and studying for tests and quizzes. 2-Pocket Folder: 1.Assignment Items: Graded assignments, quizzes, and tests will be given an assignment number. Students will track their progress on the assignment sheet, which will match the online gradebook. ALL graded work will be kept for the trimester in the right side of the folder. 2.Miscellaneous: Other ungraded loose papers will be kept in the left pocket of their folder.

2 Keys to Success in Science Here are some tips to be successful in science class: Keep your Spiral Notebook and Folder organized and up to date. Keep up with homework assignments and study regularly for short periods of time. Check the website regularly for science notebook resources, information about homework, tests, and copies of notes. Check your grades regularly. Come see me during tutorial if you need help on an assignment. Grading Policy I will accept most assignments after the due date, but late assignments may incur a penalty (usually 10-30%). The penalty becomes more stringent as the year progresses. I allow most assignments to be corrected for an improved score. In many cases, tests may be retaken. Students must come in during tutorial to retake a test. I am here to help because I want every student to achieve to the best of their abilities. Questions or Concerns? I believe that education is a team effort. I welcome communication and participation from students parents. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.
