1 Revelation 8:7-13 The First Four Trumpets: God Unravels Creation by Eric Douma November 29, Gospel of Grace Fellowship

2 Outline of Trumpet Judgments
1st Trumpet: 1/3 of earth and trees burned + all grass 2nd Trumpet: 1/3 of sea and sea creatures destroyed 3rd Trumpet: 1/3 of fresh water destroyed 4th Trumpet: 1/3 of sun, moon, stars are struck 5th Trumpet: demons released = torture of unbelievers 6th Trumpet: demon army = kills 1/3 of unbelievers 7th Trumpet: = Last 7 bowls! The first four trumpets affect man’s habitat. The last three affect man “directly.”

3 The First Trumpet Revisited
Revelation 8:7 The first sounded, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. Revelation 7:2-3 And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads.”

4 The Second Trumpet Revelation 8:8-9 The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, 9 and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed. Exodus 7:17-18 Thus says the LORD, “By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned to blood. 18 “The fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will become foul, and the Egyptians will find difficulty in drinking water from the Nile.”

5 Interpretive Point: Intensification
Revelation 8:9 and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; Revelation 16:3 (2nd bowl) The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man; and every living thing in the sea died. 4th Seal = 1/4 of mankind dies 6th Trumpet = 1/3 of mankind dies This has never happened before in human history! There is progression throughout the seals, trumpets, and bowls.

6 The Third Trumpet Revelation 8:10-11 The third angel sounded, and a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters. 11 The name of the star is called Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter. 2nd Trumpet = meteor? Affects saltwater 3rd Trumpet = meteor? Affects freshwater

7 The Fourth Trumpet Revelation 8:12-13 The fourth angel sounded, and a third of the sun and a third of the moon and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a third of it, and the night in the same way. 13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying in midheaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”

8 Cosmic Disturbances in Daniel’s 70th Week
Matt. 24:29 “after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened…” 6th Seal 4th Trumpet 5th Trumpet 4th bowl

9 The Fourth Trumpet Revelation 8:12-13 The fourth angel sounded, and a third of the sun and a third of the moon and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a third of it, and the night in the same way. 13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying in midheaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”

10 Who Is God for Us? Deliverer: Exodus 19:4 You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. Judge: Revelation 19:17-18 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great.”
