2 What is PJAS? PJAS is similar to a science fair. You pick a topic/project of interest to you You carry out an experiment/research relevant to your project idea (You must have relevant data to collect) You put together a presentation of your data and findings to present to judges. First place winners go to the state competition at Penn State. Kids that have participated in PJAS from grades 7-12 are guaranteed scholarship money upon graduation.

4 Ideas (First step) Project Ideas that include Problem Statement Hypothesis Methods and Materials (research this through) Due Date: November 5 th 2015 and November 10 th 2015 (must have a ride home this day no busses). I am here M,W (but you need a ride home I am only here until 3:30). THIS CANNOT BE DOWNLOADED!!!! YOU MUST READ AND UNDERSTAND YOUR PROJECT AND BE READY TO EXPLAIN IT TO ME.

5 Competition Dates Regional Meeting Saturday February 20 th at Snyder Middle School & possibly Rush Elementary School State Meeting May 15th, 16 th, & 17th at Penn State, University Park

6 Fees Regional Competition: $15.00/student State Fees: Approximately $180.00 per student

7 Registration You cannot register until you have an APPROVED project On-Line Registration starts on November 20 th On-Line Registration will CLOSE on January 7 th https://www.pjasregistration.com/v1/

8 Forms All Science fair forms, PJAS registration forms, and medical forms are due to me by December 1 st, 2015 FORMS Include your research plan

9 All Projects Must Include: Title, Problem Statement, Hypothesis/Prediction, Theory: background Info Methods and Materials, Methods and Materials, Data Collection, Analysis, Conclusion and IN THE FUTURE

10 Great Projects Contain: Only One Variable A Control Group Several Trials Data Analysis (Data Tables, Graphs, Statistical Analysis of some type) A large specimen sample

11 Project Verification: If you do not do your project afterschool with a member of the BHS faculty, you must Provide photographic evidence of your work throughout the project. This will include you in the picture with your specimens as the project procedures. This does not mean one shot of you, but several of you as you do the project. Any student who is found to have falsified data or to have plagiarized any part of their project will not be able to present at PJAS.
