 1.) Multiply one or both equations to make the coefficients of one of the variables to be the same (one positive, one negative)  2.) Add the 2 equations by combining the like terms. (one of the variables will be eliminated)  3.) Solve for the remaining variable  4.) Substitute the answer you found in step 3 into one of the original equations to find the other variable

1.) x +y = 3 2x -3y = 1

2.) 2x – 4y = 13 4x – 5 y = 8
