1 Complete the diagram - use the following labels
Time / Precipitation / Rising limb / Falling limb / Peak discharge / lag time.

2 Challenges in River Environments
Objective: To know why some rivers are more prone to flooding than others To know the human and physical factors that increase the risk of flooding To know the social, economic and environmental impacts of flooding Create an MEDC and LEDC case study for River Flooding Due Monday

3 What factors cause the differences in the two hydrographs?
Label: Peak Discharge Approach segment Rising limb Falling or receeding limb Bankfull disharge Stormflow Base flow Lag time Complete Interpreting Hydrographs worksheet

4 Hydrographs What could cause 2 peaks in a hydrograph?

5 What impacts has the flood caused?
What caused the flood? What impacts has the flood caused?

6 This photo was taken in the Ochils in central Scotland in Feb
This photo was taken in the Ochils in central Scotland in Feb. The geology is granite, altitude is 600m,temperatures have been around freezing for 2 months and there has been much lying snow on the summits. Soils are thin. There are some areas of heather moorland but the dominant vegetation is boggy grassland.  Use this description and the photograph to describe how the discharge of the river would respond to 24 hours of heavy rain. Draw the storm hydrograph which might be associated with such an event. Label it to describe and explain the main features of the hydrograph i.e. you should refer to the factors which influence the shape of the hydrograph: rock type, drainage density, gradient, climate and land use…..
