2 Attention and listening: Waiting for ‘Go’ before pouring water on the water wheel Waiting for ‘blow’ before blowing bubbles Turn taking: Passing bubble blower around the group, emphasising whose turn it is Taking turns to catch the fish in the water Understanding of language: Equipment needed: Different coloured fish and frogs and 4 buckets. 1 word level Find the fish/frog 2 word level Give a fish/frog to Julie/David 3 word level Put a fish/frog in Julie/David’s hand/bucket 4 word level Put the red/green fish/frog in Julie/David’s hand/bucket Vocabulary Verbs: pour, splash and blow Nouns: bubble, fish, frog, bucket and net Adjectives: red, yellow, wet and round

3 Attention and listening: Listening for a sound to ‘Go’ and ‘Stop’ ( e.g. a bell) Play the same sound in two different place. Children need to locate where the sound is coming from and run to that place ( could use two adults to play sounds). 4 Attention and listening: Listening for a list of items to shop for e.g. buy an apple and cake Guess the rhyming word ( list supplied). Children need to listen to rhyme and find the word. Understanding of language: Equipment needed: selection of food, teddy with plate and bowl, doll with plate and bowl. 1 word level Find the apple/banana 2 word level Give the apple/banana to doll/teddy 3 word level Put the apple/banana on teddy/doll’s plate/bowl 4 word level Put the apple/banana and cake/biscuit on teddy/doll’s plate/bowl Vocabulary Verbs: eat, drink and cook Nouns: teddy, doll, plate, bowl, cup, and food items Adjectives: hot and cold

6 Attention and listening: Match the sound to the animal. For example ‘which one says moo?’ Turn taking: Placing different pieces of furniture into a bag. Child finds one and guesses what it is and passes the bag around. To make it easier place very different objects in the bag e.g. chair, elephant, car and teddy bear. Understanding of language: Equipment needed: big and little farm animals, grass and pond 1 word level Find the cow/sheep 2 word level Put the sheep/cow on the grass/pond 3 word level Put the cow/sheep and horse/pig on the grass/pond 4 word level Put the cow/sheep and big/little pig/horse on the grass/pond Vocabulary Verbs: sleep, run and jump Nouns: animal names, grass and pond Adjectives: long and short
