School Council 2015 -16 Friendship and Anti – Bullying Week Worship Staying friends online.

The School Council thought about all the reasons why the internet is so great…

- You can find out lots of information – maybe to help you with your homework. The internet is great because…

You can talk to friends and family who might live far away and call people online if you need them. The internet is great because…

You can catch up on films and tv programmes. The internet is great because…

You can play games by yourself and with friends. The internet is great because…

How can I stay safe online ? By following the SMART code! S M R A T AFE EETING CCEPTING ELIABLE ELL

Follow the SMART rules, which we have all around school Keep your personal information safe! If you wouldn’t say it to a stranger on the street, don’t share it with strangers on the internet…

Follow the SMART rules Don’t meet up! Online games can be a great place for chatting to your friends. Always know who you are talking to. If an adult or someone who you don’t know in person ever asks you to meet up, say NO and you tell someone you trust.

Follow the SMART rules Accepting Think before you accept something from someone online e.g. a file, a download, a picture etc. It may contain a virus, which will break your computer. If you don’t know who it’s from, and it has an attachment… DELETE IT!

Follow the SMART rules Reliable Not everyone online is trustworthy. Somebody may be lying about their age and who they are. Make sure you know who you are talking to and use reliable sites and services to protect you and your computer.

Follow the SMART rules Tell Tell a parent, carer or trusted adult if someone, or something makes you feel worried or uncomfortable online. Also, tell someone if a friend of yours needs help online too.

Some of us on the School Council have written a play script all about staying friends online. If you are mean or unkind to someone online this can be just as hurtful as doing it face to face. It is called cyber bullying . We would like to share our play with you now…

Stay Friends Online Our message to you this Friendship Week is to be a good friend in our school and online!

In our school as well as the SMART code, we also have Hector the dolphin to help us stay safe online. Who can tell us how Hector keeps us safe?

We are now going to watch a video with Hector about how to stay friends online too ! http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7 /hectorsworld/Episode6/

What do you think the messages in the video clip were? Who can you talk to? If you feel upset about anything you have seen on the computer or if someone has said something which makes you feel bad or funny inside – you need to tell your mum, dad or whoever looks after you at home. You can also talk to members of staff in school.

School Council Friendship and Anti – Bullying Week Competition: Can you design a Hector poster we can put up around school to remind children that he keeps us safe online in school? Could Hector use the SMART code in the poster and help us to stay friends online when we are not in school?

- Your teacher will give you a competition sheet, during Friendship Week. - Think carefully about your SMART Hector poster and write your final idea on your sheet. - Write your name and class on your sheet. - Hand your entry to your School Council rep. or your teacher. How to enter our competition …

We look forward to seeing your ideas and we will announce the winners after Friendship Week. There will be prizes for the best entries judged by us! Thank you for listening to us today.
