Build an array and break it apart by tens and ones to help you find the total number of books. Draw your array or use place value blocks. How can I break the array into two parts? What multiplication sentence gives the total number of ones? What multiplication sentence gives the total number of tens? Add the partial products together. Important Rule: When making a match your smaller arrays must have one of the same dimensions (factors) as your big array. Demonstrate game with a partner and go over rules and directions on page M38-M39 Have students create a recording sheet on notebook paper by copying page 7. Students will write equations to record each complete match they make. Show the big array and using parentheses for the smaller arrays that cover it.
