1 Proceedings and outcomes of WG workshops Jennifer H. Madans U.S.A.

2 Participants 1 st workshop: Nairobi, Kenya 3 days 15 representatives from 13 countries; 1 representative of international disability organization 7 presenters 2 nd workshop: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2 days 31 representatives from 28 countries; 1 UN affiliate; 1 representative of national disability organization 8 presenters / meeting support staff

3 Objectives Review the work of the Washington Group, introduce the set of questions on disability, and explain the rationale for the question set; Present the implementation protocols and the plans for testing; Review, in depth, the implementation methods, including practical sessions; Complete the UNSD questionnaire on the collection of national data on disability; Review lessons learned from the participating countries and plan next steps.

5 Agenda Day 2 Break-out groups (in-depth discussion of implementation methods and country specific issues) UNSD questionnaire Wrap-up (lessons learned and next steps)

6 Outcomes All 13 countries attending the 1 st workshop agreed to pre-test 15 countries offered funding to conduct pre-tests  Includes the 13 countries that participated in the 1 st workshop and 2 countries from the African/Middle East region that could not attend the 1 st workshop but attended the 2 nd workshop  $5000.00 for Kenya, Gambia, and Vietnam to conduct cognitive and field tests  $1000.00 for India, Philippines, Seychelles, Lesotho, Malawi, Congo, Mauritius, Uganda, Egypt, South Africa, Palestine, and Tanzania to conduct cognitive portion of the pre-test

7 Outcomes 7 countries have submitted test plans  Gambia’s test plan approved South Africa can conduct the full pre-test without WG funding Funding will also be made available to selected countries attending the 2 nd workshop
