1 Game Plan 2 Pass Drill to Warm-up – Pass near Red, not Blue
Go when puck crosses Blue going out, 1st Shot to the pads or glove I’ll call out forward lines during games Left – Center – Right, you snooze, you lose 1 Backcheck (& Fore), 2 Pass, 3 Shoot and Rebound, 4 D Zone Position PRESSURE – PRESSURE – PRESSURE Stay on Defensive side of the puck Breakout – hash marks – take off to open ice once D commits Forwards skate to open ice for passes Gain the Red line – Rush – Urgency Get the puck deep - 5 foot rule F must recognize when a D is ahead of them and stay on the Blue line Bring the puck into the O-Zone near the boards (WIDE) Do not skate into the defense – Deception – Delay to wait for support Short Shifts - Sit for 30 then get up, watch and encourage O-Zone triangle - keep moving to create passing lanes Use the Points Use body to protect the puck Let Goalie get puck in front of net – Lift opponents sticks 1-1-2 Penalty Kill and Play the Box (sticks in passing lanes) Think 1 line ahead, think about what to do before you get the puck Face Off positions and movement when the puck drops

2 Defensive Zone Position
When the other team has the puck in our Defensive zone Stay in your room Wings keep your back to the boards - watch the D and the corners If the puck comes into your room – go get it – go hard Its ok to leave your room to get a loose puck Center supports the Defensemen – gets the loose puck or picks up the forward who gets away from our D Defensive Zone Position X X X X RW LW RW LW X X X X RD LD C G G C LD RD X X

3 Penalty Kill X X X F1 Play in a box in the Defensive Zone
Keep the puck out of the middle of the box Sticks need to be in the opponents passing lanes Don’t chase the puck unless you are confident of getting it When you get the puck, ice it and get off the ice for fresh legs X X F2 Penalty Kill LD RD 1-1-2 Stay above the offensive goal line F1 puts pressure on puck carrier to force a pass F2 then goes hard to the player receiving the pass F1 goes quickly towards our end to take F2’s spot F2 then puts pressure on puck carrier to force a pass F1 goes hard to the player receiving the pass Repeat When you get the puck, ice it and get off the ice for fresh legs X X F F X LD RD X G G X A SHORT SHIFT MEANS YOU’VE DONE A GREAT JOB

4 Entering the Offensive Zone
Top speed in the neutral zone If there is a clear path to the goalie, the player with the puck goes straight in, others follow for rebound Otherwise, the player with the puck brings the puck into the offensive zone near the boards – go wide Players without the puck skate to open ice so that there is a passing lane –this is often nearer to the boards than to center ice – you can often skate across the ice to create a passing lane Do not skate into opponents, skate away from them. D need to get to the offensive blue line quickly - join the offense If a D is rushing the puck, the last forward needs to pull up at the blue line X X Entering the Offensive Zone X X LW X C RD RW LD G

5 Offensive Zone Position
LD RD LD RD No forward positions in the Offensive Zone Stay in a triangle when we have the puck Forwards without the puck need to skate to open ice One forward stays above the face off dots Another stays on the weak side (ok to be below the goal line) Always be moving – skate into passing lanes Defensemen stay inside the Blue Line when we have the puck D move together when the puck moves Strong side D on the boards Weak side D in the middle Use the points! - Screen the goalie! Shooting Zone If you have the puck and enter the shooting zone – SHOOT Go to the net when you see your teammate with the puck in the shooting zone Offensive Zone Position We’re shooting this way G

6 Lining Up For Face-Offs
LW RW LW RW C RD LD LD RD In the Neutral Zone – Center ice or Blueline C pulls puck back to LD or RD LW and RW break towards face off dot If we win the face off, LW and RW go to open ice for a pass If we lose the face off, LW and RW go to the puck Lining Up For Face-Offs LW C RW LD RD C RD RW LW LD C LW RW G G LD RD

7 Moving When the Puck Drops
LW RW LW RW C C RD LD LD RD C directs puck towards goal if on forehand, pulls puck back to RD if not LW goes for loose puck RW goes to the goal (weak side) C directs puck towards goal if on forehand, pulls puck back to LD if not RW goes for loose puck LW goes to the goal (weak side) Moving When the Puck Drops C pulls puck towards corner LW goes for loose puck, then point RW goes to point C pulls puck towards corner RW goes for loose puck, then point LW goes to point C RD RW LW LD C LW RW G G LD RD
