Task Administration Alternate K-PREP2 The task must be administered one to one in a setting free of distractions. Additional adults (e.g., paraprofessional) can be present to assist if needed. Do not teach any part of the task before or after the assessment. Early shipping is to be used for assessment purposes only (e.g., making accommodations). A five-minute break is optional after each mini set of 5 items. This is noted in the testing materials. The student may only complete one content area per day. If the student requires a break, it is acceptable to orient the student to where he/she was in the process prior to beginning again. Do not start over. 2

Administering the Task 3 Preview the task, the accompanying materials, and prepare for administration. Review previous slides, notes, and directions for administering the test included in the test folder for details. Read the questions carefully to ensure correct pronunciation of words. Note that accompanying materials listed on the first page (e.g., interview, map, etc.) are located at the end of the task, directly behind the content area task (after question 5). 3 Alternate K-PREP

Administering the Task Words in the question that are bolded and underlined should be emphasized to the student (e.g., not, most, likely, best, etc.) All questions have been provided for student use at the end of the task. These questions can be cut apart, covered, or manipulated as needed. Picture/answer choices may be provided in any format as long as the order of the binder is maintained. (e.g.; up and down, side to side, in corners of page) The sequence of A,B,C,D cannot change.

Administering the Task Read the script signified by “quotation marks” to the student exactly as written. It is acceptable to use an alternate word only if The student’s IEP includes paraphrasing; that is acceptable as long as it follows the accommodations guidelines In some instances, the test provides paraphrased options parenthetically that are available to all students [e.g., supports (holds up)]. The word is not a key content word (e.g., figurative language, government, slope, etc.) The alternate word does not change the context (e.g., changing “describe the bike” to “tell about the bike” would be acceptable; changing “describe the bike” to “identify the bike” would not be acceptable) 5 5 Alternate K-PREP

Administering the Task If needed, orient the student to the response options prior to reading each question (e.g., read and/or point to each response option prior to asking the question). Read the answer choices to the student after asking the question. It is acceptable to reread any part of the script or answers to the student “when it is determined that the student is not focused or engaged in the assessment and it does not direct him/her to the correct response.” Allow the student to independently respond to each task item. Indicate the student’s response on the answer sheet provided to enter into the SRD at a later date. 6 6 Alternate K-PREP

Administering the Task Record each student response before moving to the next assessment item. If the student does not respond, indicate N/A. It is acceptable for the student to change his/her mind if The student indicates so independently The teacher hasn’t in any way indicated the accuracy of the student’s answer, including the student observing the teacher recording the response The teacher has not moved to the next item Subsequent items might provide answers to previous items, so students MAY NOT return to a previous question 7 7 Alternate K-PREP

Administering the Task Recording the student response: Do not provide verbal or nonverbal prompts, cues, or general feedback on the accuracy of the response while the student is responding. The student can be directed to provide a response as long as the direction does not cue the student to the correct answer. Multiple trials to get the student to respond is allowable before assigning a “no response” code. Non-allowable Procedures: The task administrator cannot: Prompt in a manner that helps the student select the correct answer. Provide physical guidance to the correct answer. Decide that a student response is not the intended response and ask the student to respond again. Give the student multiple trials to get the correct response once an incorrect response is given. Start the task over if stopped. Record responses based on what the test administrator “thinks” the student knows. Alternate K-PREP

After Administering the Task 9 File a signed Code of Ethics in the AAAF for each student participating in the Field Test. File a signed Nondisclosure Form in the AAAF for any non-school personnel assisting with administration. All Attainment Task materials are considered secure testing materials. ALL materials associated with the Attainment Task must be returned to the District or Building Assessment Coordinator or Director of Special Education to be securely destroyed. Keep the student response sheet in the AAAF.  Delete any test files that were placed on a computer and empty from the computer’s recycle bin. 9 Alternate K-PREP

After Administering the Task The Attainment Task must be administered by December 13, 2013. Student scores must be entered into the Student Registration Database by December 20, 2013. Store AAAF in a secure location. If there are issues with technology or task completion, have the District Assessment Coordinator contact Kevin O’Hair at the Office of Assessment and Accountability. Alternate K-PREP

After Administering the Task The Second Window of the Attainment Tasks: Materials will ship the week of April 1, 2014 Materials will be received no later than April 4, 2014 The second testing window will begin April 14, 2014. The second testing window will close May 23, 2014. The last day to enter scores into the Student Registration Database for the second window is May 30, 2014.
