7 Our Goal: Getting High Quality Health Information to the Public Improving the public's access to information enables them to make informed decisions about their health and healthcare. Public libraries are “first responders” in providing public access to information.

10 Realities of Health Care today: Patients are now asked to make decisions about their own disease process. Most patients do not have the tools to make these kinds of decisions

11 Where do people go before going to the library for health information? Doctors, Nurses, Physician’s Assistants Family, Friends TV Magazines Dr. Oz Pew Internet Study –September 2012 – 77% online health seekers began search at search engine such as Google, Bing or Yahoo

12 Health Literacy The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions One out of ?
