17 How do we evaluate “Requests for Support”?  What is its relevance to the political environment?  What is the applicant’s capacity to deliver? (references past experience)  What happens once the project has finished? How will activities be continued and developed?  Why are you applying to EED – and not to other donors?

18 Coaching grantees Help develop “request for EED support” Help develop applications to other donors, e.g. European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) “Community of practice” to exchange experience

19 How do we select grantees? 1. EED programme officers check facts, references, make clarifications with applicant etc. 2. EED team discusses each project and decides whether to recommend for funding to the Executive Committee. 3. EED Executive Committee takes final decision (bi- monthly meeting on on-line emergency procedure).
