2 CH-081010LEAF2 Computer aided engineering at CERN Coordinated by CAEC since 1983 Coordinated by CAEC since 1983 –CERN-wide committee –Representatives from all divisions/departments –Decisional power –Dedicated Budget/ Resources –Assisted by a support team and specialized working groups Have shown its efficiency. But highly dependant from the management attitude. Have shown its efficiency. But highly dependant from the management attitude. CAEC must be kept and reinforced. CAEC must be kept and reinforced.

End date of EUCLID known since 5 years : EUCLID access (software and BDs) is already stopped progressively End date of EUCLID known since 5 years : EUCLID access (software and BDs) is already stopped progressively Well prepared by CAD2000: choice of software Well prepared by CAD2000: choice of software Implementation neglected for a long time due to the LHC project Implementation neglected for a long time due to the LHC project Implementation driven by informatics people, not by users, led sometimes to inadequate decisions (e.g. Smarteam) Implementation driven by informatics people, not by users, led sometimes to inadequate decisions (e.g. Smarteam) A major difficulty for the design offices, but especially for TS/MME: large number of users and budgetary problems A major difficulty for the design offices, but especially for TS/MME: large number of users and budgetary problems

6 CH-081010LEAF6 TF MANDATE (Extracts) OBJECTIVES The coordination task force objectives are primarily oriented toward fulfilling the user requirements and they cover three main aspects: Conversion of Euclid model data (generic for CERN): processes, tools, methodology, timing. Conversion of Euclid model data (generic for CERN): processes, tools, methodology, timing. Migration of data (design office methodology: specific to TS department): reusable, ordered. Migration of data (design office methodology: specific to TS department): reusable, ordered. Transition to CATIA/SmarTeam (design office methodology: specific to TS department): training, methodology. Transition to CATIA/SmarTeam (design office methodology: specific to TS department): training, methodology.

7 CH-081010LEAF7 TF MANDATE (Extracts) EXTENT OF THE TASK FORCE ACTIVITIES The Task force activities concern all software and hardware aspects including the licenses and installation issues. The development and maintenance of generic tools developed and made available to all CERN users. The implementation will be mainly TS oriented (see objectives); but could be adaptable to other CERN users if resources are available and if their methodologies are specified and/or compatible. Task force duration: 1 year maximum.

8 CH-081010LEAF8 TF MANDATE (Extracts) Steering committee including TS design office section leaders (weekly meetings): Bertarelli, Capatina, Chemli, Delamare, Folch, Hauviller, Muttoni, Nicquevert, Timmins; open distribution of the minutes of meetings. The Chairman of the Task Force will report project progress to the TS DL and inform other interested parties. The task force will inform CAEC about project progress.
