2 The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and published in 1925. It is considered one of the greatest American novels ever written. More than 25,000,000 copies have been sold. It has been adapted into a film 6 times. It has been adapted to radio shows, operas, Broadway plays, ballets, and computer games. Nearly every high school student reads The Great Gatsby. But why? What’s all the hype about?

3 1.Ask as many questions as you can. 2.Do not stop to discuss, judge, or answer the questions. 3.Write down every question that is suggested. 4.Change any statement into a question. 5.Number all of the questions. Rules for producing questions:

5 Mark any Closed-Ended questions with a C They can be answered with “yes” or “no” Mark any Open-Ended questions with an O They require an explanation Improve your questions

7 For our deeper understanding and analysis of The Great Gatsby, we want Open-Ended questions. Change two of your Closed-Ended questions so they are Open-Ended questions. Improve your questions

8 Review your list of questions and circle the three that your group thinks are the most important questions. As we begin reading The Great Gatsby, we will use these questions to help us understand the significance of The Great Gatsby to our individual and national identity. Prioritize your questions
