Thesis Although there are many ways to identify someone, social media has impacted the shaping of identity, due to the presence of assimilation on the sites. These diverse cultures cause a loss of identity among certain people because it has become much harder to specifically identify under one culture, disabling people from having a specific identity due to the many cultures in society.

Assimilation Assimilation is when there are groups or cultures that begin to look like another group. Different cultures among society have been developing because of assimilation. Example, Mexican immigrants

Assimilation on Identity Gloria Anzaldua, How To Tame A Wild Tongue, explains her struggles to obtaining one identity being a Chicana. Chicanas/Chicanos have more than one identity; Mexican Americans.  Different languages throughout other regions.  Different customs.  Spanglish

Parents influence on Identity Parents are influenced by cultures and beliefs, just like children are, but those influences are the ones that help shape a persons identity, for good or bad.  Religion  Communication  Behavior Parents attention on a child's social media use.

Social Media’s Effect on Identity Social media has developed a lot over the years and has influenced many people’s behaviors and self-expressions. Social media is not healthy for children and adolescence, especially when it takes place at the time of search for self- identity because it can become too time consuming. Positive and Negative

Social Media and Assimilation On social media, there are many ways to express the culture a person is from which is why there are many people who can express more than one culture making them unique. The way some people can express their identity and who they are can also receive negative attention from those who are not very acceptance of those who are not like other people.  Cyberbullying When teens receive criticism from others, they may either react in a positive or negative way in their lives.
