3. Introducing the MHA Health Careers Center The MHA Health Careers Center was created by the Mississippi Hospital Association in response to the shortages in nursing and allied health careers. These shortages are threatening the delivery of timely and quality healthcare in Mississippi and must be addressed. The Center provides resources for individuals interested in health careers and to hospitals for employee recruitment and retention.

4. Employer of Choice The MHA Health Careers Center works with healthcare employers to implement strategies to help them become employers of choice in their communities. Some of these practices include developing career paths for allied health care positions, creating career flexibility within the organization, providing continuous growth opportunities for employees, and ensuring that benefits and salaries are competitive in the labor force.

5. Healthcare Leadership Never before have healthcare organizations had a greater need to build strong leadership. Top leaders and front-line managers play a pivotal role in assurance of clinical quality and the creation of organizational dynamics to attract and keep a competent workforce. The MHA Health Careers Center provides leadership training opportunities and informational resources for organizational assessments, leadership competency, human resource management, advocacy issues, and legal/regulatory issues.

6. Recruitment and Retention The Center serves as a resource for posting healthcare job opportunities and receiving resumes from prospective job applicants. The Center researches best practices utilized within the healthcare arena and shares findings with healthcare employers.

7. The Center has also initiated an educational campaign directed at elementary, middle and high schools to inform students of the many rewarding career options available in the healthcare field. Scholarships The MHA Health Careers Scholarship Program offers assistance for students seeking funding to attend health-related academic programs through: 4An endowed fund to support annual scholarships for selected Mississippi students pursuing health careers; 4Informational resources to identify scholarships, grants, loans and other forms of financial aid; and 4Guidance to assist in obtaining financial aid requirements, application materials, deadlines, and other pertinent information.
