5 Work with your group members to answer the following questions. 1.What is a transition word? 2.Give an example of a transition you would use if you were giving instructions for an activity. 3.Give an example of a transition word you would use if you were telling a friend about an event you witnessed (you’re giving them the info in order). 4.Give an example of a transition word you would use to end a paragraph or essay.

7 African lions and Siberian tigers are two wild cats, and they have many differences and similarities. These animals are very large. The Siberian tiger weighs around nine hundred pounds. The African lion weighs around six hundred. Siberian tigers live in Asia, and the lion lives on the continent of Africa. Tigers are orange and black, but lions are tan. The Siberian tiger is a dangerous predator, and the African lion is a predator. Lions and tigers are part of the Felidae family, which means that they are considered cats. In summary, these two animals have many things in common, but they also have some different characteristics.

Even though both animals are very large cats, the Siberian tiger is a few hundred pounds heavier than the African lion. Siberian tigers live in Asia whereas the lion lives on the continent of Africa. Furthermore, tigers are orange and black, but on the other hand, lions are tan. The Siberian tiger is a dangerous predator just like the African lion. Lions and tigers are part of the same scientific family, which means that they are considered cats. In summary, these two animals have many things in common, but they also have some different characteristics.

Warm-up today: With your group members, come up with an extra detail (elaboration) for each statement. 1.Horses and cows both eat the same thing. 2.My parents are two different genders. 3.Just like in the U.S., other countries have holidays. 4.Rottweilers are bigger than Dachshunds. (two different dogs) 5.Tomatoes are a different color than cucumbers.
