PURE PROMOTING THE USE OF PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS IN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT THROUGH DEMO RELAY NODES EIE/05/051/SI2.420200 From 01/01/2006 to 31/12/2008 January 2009

2. PROJECT SUMMARY SPAIN PORTUGAL ITALY GREECE SLOVAK IA GERMANY PURE addresses the Promotion of Photovoltaic (PV) energy in the urban environment, mainly focused on the integration into buildings, particularly in those European countries characterized by a large solar potential and lack of PV installed capacity (Southern Europe). 7 partners from 6 EU countries (ES, DE, PO, SK, GR, IT). Main results: Set-up of the 5 PV-DRN in Europe. Participation/organisation of PURE partners in more than 30 regional, national and international events talking about BIPV. Analysis of Technical and Economic Solutions for Integration of PV into Buildings. Information about national legislation concerning PV as well as the implementation of 2002/91/EC Directive.

3. BACKGROUND Great differences between Southern Europe and Northern Europe countries regarding the solar radiation and the level of PV power installations Lack of basic information concerning technical and economic aspects of available solutions for BIPV products Lack of social awareness about the integration of RES into the cities and buildings in most of the EU countries. Delay in the implementation of EPBD In most of the countries, except for Spain. PURE solves the related problems and delays, and encourages the integration of PV into the building environment.

4. OBJECTIVES AND MAIN STEPS The planned activities are: Searching of information. Related to technical, economical and legislative aspects regarding integration of PV in the cities and EPBD. Design and set-up of the PV-DRNs. All the PV-DRN follow a common design although there are specific details in each. Dissemination activities. There are several ways Through the exploitation of the PV-DRN, with the organization of guided-visits, conferences and seminars on technical and legal framework aspects. Distributed dissemination and promotion activities (satellite actions), carried out outside the PV-DRN, the idea is to go near the target groups to make easier the attendance.

5. ACHIEVEMENTS/ RESULTS Set-up of 5 Photovoltaic Demo Relay Nodes (PV-DRN) in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Slovakia and Italy during 18 months. The availability of PVDRNs will be extended at least until June 2009. Exploitation of PV-DRNs through the organisation of guided visits, training courses, infodays, conferences, etc. to the demo areas (permanent exhibition, multimedia room, experimental area). 2 main publications, in 6 languages (EN, ES, GR, SK, PO, IT), Potential and benefits of BIPV. Available technical solutions and examples on BIPV systems. A CD-ROM, edited in 6 languages, with the most important contents of PURE project (available in the website). A Replication Plan about how this scheme could be replicated in the future from the point of view of the experienced participants of PURE project.
