3 PROJECT BACKGROUND Pulsafeeder Inc. needed more efficient methods to collect data on their various pumping lines. Troubleshooting a failure with a lack of vital data, such as flow, pressure, and efficiency, can lead to long Design Reviews that can ultimately bypass the primary issues. This system would allow Pulsafeeder to acquire vital pump metrics and see when & where preventative maintenance is required to prolong the life of the pump.

4 CUSTOMER NEEDS Monitor Pump Metrics Pressure, Flow, Temperature, Power Monitor Motor Metrics Voltage, Amperage, Power, Efficiency Preventative and Reactive Shut Down Procedures Display and Record Data Mobile Solution Incorporate “Off the Shelf” Solutions

11 CONTROLLER SELECTION Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) picked above a Single Board Computer (SBC) and Microcontroller due to customer’s familiarity with PLCs. PLCs are also known to be highly robust and widely used in this type of industry. 14 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE Integrate with Pump/Motor Controller Add networking capabilities for accessing data Integrate ability to automatically produce flow curves Add additional sensors such as vibration sensing Integrate sensors inside pump Send text/SMS notifications when attention is needed

15 LESSONS LEARNED Just because it is the industry standard, doesn’t mean that it is the easiest to learn/implement or most cost effective solution Right tool for the right job Co-oping with Senior Design makes your contributions less visible Open choices for programming languages would be nice Don’t box yourself in because of your major Document Everything Google Drive utilization allows for multiple people to collaborate at the same time
