2  God reveals Himself and His will in the Bible.  The Bible reveals God, His plan for creation and redemption, and His plan for our own individual lives.  God wants us to read His word.

3 Question: What are some examples of fairytales?

4 Question: How is the story of Little Red Riding Hood a rescue story? Answer: The woodsman rescued the little girl from the consequences of her disobedience and defeated the evil wolf. Question: How is Little Red Riding Hood like all people? Answer: She did not follow her mother's instructions and instead took a shortcut through the woods. We all tend to feel trapped under rules for living, especially if we don't understand their importance.

5 Question: Why does this fairytale have such enduring value? Answer: It is entertaining, but it also speaks to us at a deeper level. Question: What motivates a mother to give such instructions to a child? Answer: Her motivations are love and concern.

6 Question: What are some other possible lessons that parents might want their children to learn from this story? Answer: Don't talk to stranger, don't flirt with danger, listen to your parents, stay on the right path even if it is long and difficult, shortcuts can lead to disaster, good will defeat evil in the end, etc.

7 Question: In what way is the Bible God's rescue story? What do you think God wants us to learn from His story? Answer: God sent his Son (Jesus) to save us from our sins, which had separated us from Him. God wants us to learn of His faithful love for us.

8 Turn to "About This Unit" (page 5) in the student text, please. Turn to "Who Wrote the Bible" (page 5) in the student text. Turn to "Why Was the Bible Written?" and "The Canon" (pages 5-6) in the student text.

9 Distribute activity sheet 1 The Bible references illustrate God's nature, the way God created us to be, the fall into sin, God's plan to rescue us from sin and death, and the description of an obedient life today.
