Parent and Teacher Communication I am available before and after school from 7am-3:30pm.  Email is the fastest way to get a response enasser@somersetacademy.com  If you would like a call back please request this through email.  One-on-one conferences can also be arranged.  Group conferences have to be scheduled with the guidance counselor Ms. Kirker – jkirker@somersetacademy.comjkirker@somersetacademy.com

3. Student and Teacher Communication  Students needing additional help can schedule a day after school.  If a student needs to make up work (classwork, quiz, or test) please have them schedule a day after school.  Future tutoring dates will be posted on the website for Civics EOC preparation.

4. Honors Policy Middle School students enrolled in High School or in Advanced level courses must earn a final grade of an A or a B in an Advanced and/or High School level class in order to be placed in the subsequent High School Honors course in 9 th grade or Middle School Advanced level course the following school year. Students earning C’s or lower on their final course grade will be placed in a regular course for 9 th grade or the following Middle School grade.

5. Classroom Expectations Be on time Be prepared Be respectful Be responsible for own work Warnings, Parent Contact, Detentions, Referral Late work is accepted with 10% deducted per day. After 10 school days it will no longer be accepted.

7. Classroom Procedures 3 ring binder required with 5 dividers (Bell Work, Class work, Notes, Homework, Vocabulary) There will be a weekly binder check. Homework will be checked on due date.

8. Class Website and Pinnacle Visit the class website and pinnacle frequently to get information regarding student school activities and performance. School website-www.somersetacademy.com Staff Directory – Mrs. Erin Nasser Get Volunteer Hours by visiting my wish list! $4 = 1hr submit receipts and supplies to the activities window. Broward County has still not given credentials for parent and student access. As soon as I receive them they will be posted on my website.

9. Exams and Assessments Vocabulary quizzes will be given Unit test dates will be posted on website as they come up (Approximately 3 per quarter) Florida Standardized Assessment ( dates TBA around April) Final Exams are the last week of school EOC for Civics (dates TBA last year it was on May 6th)  Accounts for 30% of final grade.  Computer based, multiple choice, approx. 55 questions, 160 minutes.  Origins and Purposes of Law and Government (25%)  Roles, Rights, and Responsibilities of Citizens (25%)  Government Policies and Political Processes (25%)  Organization and Function of Government (25%)

10. Photo/Food Opt Out In both courses I conduct an end of the year project in which other teachers, administrators, and staff attend. World History has a museum exhibition and Civics create small businesses. ONLY if you DO NOT wish for your children to be photographed during these events should you email me simply letting me know to exclude them from any pictures. Also please make me aware of any food allergies, as snacks are served.
