1 SAP HANA: Making the Future, Now! Sue Waite
Companies are clearly exploring new intersections between physical and digital assets. There is no doubt that innovative uses of existing and new technologies are arriving every day… One evolution that I find quite intriguing is this notion of the sharing economy – which is all about owning the Customer-Supply Interface. Take, for example: - Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles. - Facebook, the world’s most popular media owner, creates no content. - And Airbnb, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate. (Source: TechCrunch, The Battle Is For The Customer Interface) Uber and AirBnB are just the start. Some estimates expect the Sharing Economy to grow 3,000% from 2015 to (Source: SAP Center for Business Insight 2015 calculation based on PwC, The sharing economy –sizing the revenue opportunity) Crazy how new approaches to leverage these nascent items have already changed our world and our opportunities within it! Another interesting stat: 90% of the world’s population over 6 years old will have a mobile device by 2020. (Source: Ericsson, Ericsson Mobility Report) 74% of US and European retail, healthcare and manufacturing companies have already developed smart products. (Source: The Economist Intelligence Unit, Developing Smart Products) KEYNOTE ABSTRACT: SAP HANA: Making the Future, Now  SAP HANA offers a powerful solution for organizations looking to run their business processes faster. 2 Mobile? It’s already everywhere
A few key trends are shaping our future There is no doubt that technology has the ability to shape, and reshape our world. Let’s talk about three specific technology trends that will without a doubt impact us in the next 5 years:. The first one is the cloud. You might think that the cloud is almost already behind us. However I would argue that we have barely started scratching the surface of the possibilities opened by the cloud. Most companies today actually see the cloud as a hosting capability - while it offers so many more possibilities. The second trend is Big Data. That term is almost a misnomer and I would argue an artificial category that was created by technology vendors as a convenient way to reference certain new tools. The value of these new tools is undeniable, however I think we need to be careful as to not build walls between Big Data and the rest of the data (which would be what – “small data”?). The third trend is the Internet of Things. By far the most nebulous of all three, “connected this” “connected that” yet the one that will probably reshape our world in ways that we cannot even fathom today. I’m often asked why I don’t cover Mobile as one of these disruptive technology trends.. and to that my answer is that it’s not even worth talking about it at this point in time: Mobile is already everywhere, it’s like water: you need it to live and survive. 97% of CIOs are deploying mobile apps this year. The question is actually whether anyone is still deploying applications that are not meant to be consumed on mobile devices? So let’s just agree Mobile is already an established force in technology. Cloud Big Data Internet of Things Mobile? It’s already everywhere 2

3 Data is the New Currency
New Reality And the most common denominator within and across all those technology trends is the degree of Information that is opened up to us. The new reality is that Data is Power. Data is the new currency that’s opening new doors of opportunity. Photo Credit - Data: Photo Credit - Money: Source: Flickr Source: Flickr Data is the New Currency 3

4 Finding the Needle in the Haystack
However, the real trick is finding the set of Data and especially the Combinations of Data that is is most relevant to your business! When we find the key that opens that door, the realms of possibility are most exciting. Photo Credit - Haystack: Source: Flickr 4

5 Innovation is everywhere
We all hear of companies that are reinventing themselves, changing their business models to stay relevant, every day. Just a few examples: Under Armour is not just selling shirts and shoes – It is connecting 38 million people on a digital health platform Siemens is not just an industrial powerhouse – It is a software company connecting its industrial assets in the cloud and enabling customers to generate new revenue streams by selling services, not products Uber is not just another taxi company – It is transforming into an “urban logistics” company with 200,000 drivers, roughly double the size of the UPS delivery workforce 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 6 Living in a digital economy
Last two years Next two years 90% 40% Of the world’s data has been generated1 Growth in adoption of business networks2 The world has continued to Change and Innovate, and so to have business challenges and opportunities. Just a few examples: The pace of data generation is accelerating – in the last two years, 90% of world data has been generated. Over the next two years, there will be 40% growth in the adoption of business networks. By the end of the decade, 212 billion things, from cars, to heavy equipment, to consumer appliances, will be connected to the internet. By 2020, there will be 9 billion mobile users in the world Last year alone, 51% of workloads were processed in the cloud. That amount will only grow for the foreseeable future. Today’s world is digital and networked… 212 billion End of 2020 “Things” will be connected3 By 2020 9 billion Mobile users in the world4 In 2014 51% Of workloads processed in the cloud5 5 Cisco Global Cloud Index: Forecast and Methodology for 2013–2018, Cisco Systems Inc., November 11, 2014. 1 ScienceDaily, May 22, 2013. 3 Internet of Things (IoT) 2013 to 2020 Market Forecast: Billions of Things, Trillions of Dollars, IDC, 2013. 2 Technology Adoption Report on Business Networks, Ardent Partners, 2014. 4 Statista, 2014. 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 7 . . . offers infinite opportunities to first movers
26%+ 9%+ 12%+ Profitability impact Early adopters are winning! Research shows that companies who have embraced the digital world and execute on their digital strategy are seeing real shareholder and stakeholder value. The value created and resulting financial performance is significant, with companies experiencing on average +9% revenue creation, +26% impact to profitability, and +12% market valuation. And last but not least, the resulting pace of change is staggering…. In the next 10 years, 40% of the S&P 500 will no longer exist if they do not keep up with technology trends. And I was just reading, last night, that at the current turnover rate, 75% of the companies in the S&P 500 in 2027, will be new (companies not currently in index today) (Source: Seeking Alpha, Increasing Churn Rate In The S&P 500) Revenue creation Early adopters are winning Market valuation In the next 10 years, 40% of the S&P 500 will no longer exist if they do not keep up with these technology trends* * “The Digital Advantage: how digital leaders outperform their peers in every industry”: CapGemini and MIT Sloan, 2013 (link) 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 8 = Things Opportunity So, to put it another way,
continuous change in the “things” you may incorporate into your business’s information systems and operating models =equals= the continuous stream of new opportunities you may open up for your business. 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 8

9 <Click X2> That said, we many companies are frozen because of complexity. Complexity is the enemy of innovation, simplification and the transition to digital. 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 9

10 Where does complexity hide in enterprises?
Scattered information Batch orientation Technology limitation Most of the companies we’ve worked with have spent the past 20 – 30 years standardizing their processes, but the problem is that Standardization does not mean Simplification. Complexity hides in the most insidious places: - Information that’s scattered across silo’s makes for Complex Decision Making. The really scary part is this prevents companies from bringing good ideas to market, in time to beat their competition and make a profit. - Moving data around, sharing copies here and there to support individual unit’s business processes means that between 40 – 80% of time can be spent on Non Value-added activities - And managing all data sets, across all those different technologies, is often the greatest IT challenge of all. A survey of the top 200 global companies estimated that over 10% of their profits were eaten up by the hidden costs of Complexity. That represented upwards of $240B in profits lost! Complex decision making Large global organizations have created so much complexity that businesses often struggle to bring good ideas to the marketplace profitably.” (McKinsey, 2014) Complex business processes Large organizations can spend between 40% and 80% of their time on non-value- added activities (BCG, Complexity Report) Complex technology 73% percent of executives said the complexity of data is the largest IT challenge (Forrester, 2013 report) 10.2% or $237B* of profits lost by top 200 global companies due to hidden costs of complexity *Global Simplicity Index, 2013 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 11 What to Do? Reinvent The Future
Changing the innovation s-curve Today’s inflection point Radically renew based on disruptive technologies Innovation Clearly a new approach is needed to Reinvent the Future! SAP took a long, hard look at ways to move from optimizing existing technology approaches of separate systems for OLAP and OLTP to raise the Innovation bar! Customers expect real-time results, and employees expect forward-looking information to be available at their finger tips, any day, any time! Simplification is all about agility, how to move fast, how to change supply chains in a rapid fashion, how to close the books faster, how to recruit, hire and onboard faster -- with the pace that is required in today’s digital economy. Companies need to be able to make immediate changes vs. in 6 months or 12 months… because by then it would be too late. 12 Simplicity So SAP focused on Simplicity, first and foremost

13 Simplicity = Agility Because Simplicity = Agility!
Agility enables that ability to perceive and respond to changing conditions, immediately

14 One Platform One Copy of the Data Less Integration More Innovation
SAP enables Agility with a single platform, One Platform that holds One Copy of your data – all your data, for both operational and analytical needs. And because that data resides on One Platform, there are much Less Integration needed. And when your very valuable staff aren’t spending time on all those different technologies, data sets, old, and new, for different business use cases, then your very valuable staff now has the time required to consider and evaluate new Innovative ways of running and supporting the business!

15 SAP HANA is the Ultimate Simplifier
Bringing together transactions and analytics on the same platform. Uniting structured data (e.g., finance) and unstructured data (text, video, voice) will change the way businesses plan, scale, and innovate. At the heart of all this is that we have changed something very dramatic that has never been done before. We have merged the world of Transactions and Analytics in one platform, running in-memory, in real-time with the ability to manipulate large amounts of data. In addition, data can be brought from non-transactional systems into transactional systems, and these transactional systems are connected to the network to extend processes. Your businesses can now go beyond its traditional four walls to collaborate with other companies like never before. All of this can be done with ease and flexibility through cloud technologies. In this capacity, we believe that SAP HANA is the Ultimate Simplifier and will ultimately change the way your business plans, scales and innovates. Digital winners have embarked on a complete reimagining of their business across three dimensions: REIMAGINE BUSINESS MODELS REIMAGINE BUSINESS PROCESSES REIMAGINE WORK 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 16 Real Time In-Memory Analyze to Predict
The combined world of transactions and analytics, running in real time, in-memory with the ability to manipulate large data volumes on a single platform, fully enables your ability to move from analyzing your past to predicting future scenarios with confidence. Many people told us that this could not be done but the reality is it is all ready and is running at scale. This game-changing technology will enable your business to re-imagine everything including business models, business processes, and simplifying the way work is conducted by your workforce. SAP HANA provides your digital business platform for the future, now!. 16
