2 Welcome to the Senior College Workshop Today we will be covering:  Credits and Diploma Types  Transcripts  Rank and GPA  College Application Process

5 New York State Regents High School Diploma Requirements  Regents Diploma –65 or above on:  One Regents in English  One Regents in History  One Regents in Math  One Regents in Science  A second of either History, Math or Science  3 units in a foreign language

6 New York State Regents High School Diploma Requirements  Advanced Regents Diploma –65 or above on:  English  Global Studies  US History  Three Regents in Math  Two Regents in Science  3 units in a foreign language and passing the FLACS exam

7 Review of Transcripts  Please review the following information to verify it is correct: –Name –Date of Birth –Regents Tests –Courses –Total Number of Credits should be at least 18.5 for a Senior to be on track to graduate.

8 College Application Process  Everything we cover today (handouts, instructions, necessary forms) are all located in the Guidance Section of the AMSU website.  www.amsu.org

9 Naviance  This year most college applications will be processed through Naviance. If you have not activated your Naviance account, or need help with your username/password, please see your Guidance Counselor.  Most schools on the Common Application are E-doc schools, meaning the Guidance Department can send your transcript electronically.  If a school is not an E-doc school, then we will mail your transcript.  CUNY is NOT an E-doc school, therefore we will mail all transcripts for students who apply to CUNY.  If you have a question about whether or not a school is an E-doc school, please refer to the handout “Students’ Guide to Family Connection Naviance” on the Guidance webpage.

10 Naviance  All students must use Naviance during the application process – to update their Naviance account with schools they are applying to.(This is outlined in “Students’ Guide to Family Connection Naviance” on the Guidance webpage)  However, do not let that be the only way you use Naviance.  Naviance can be helpful in finding out about different colleges, majors, gpa and SAT requirements for schools, application deadlines, college mailing/contact information, scholarships, career inventories (which sometime will help you pick a major).  In other words……..

11 Where should you be in the college process as of today?  Finalizing list of schools to apply to  Starting online applications: –www.commonapp.org www.commonapp.org –www.cuny.edu www.cuny.edu –www.suny.edu www.suny.edu  Submitting Transcripts Request Forms to your Guidance Counselor  Updating your Naviance account with schools you have applied to.  Requesting teacher recommendations on Naviance.

12 Application Cycle Student completes online applications Student submits a Transcript Request form for every school they apply to Student updates Naviance account with schools they have applied to Student submits Teacher Letter of Recommendation Request Forms with envelopes and postage Student is notified by counselor when transcripts have been sent

13 Transcript Request Forms  Can be found in the Guidance section of the AMSU Website.  Every transcript costs $5. It will be billed to your tuition account in March.  CUNY applications are treated as 1 application, regardless of how many campuses you apply to.

14 Transcript Request Forms  For every Common Application school that uses E-docs, you must submit: –AMSU Transcript Request Form  For every Common Application school that does NOT use E-docs, you must submit: –AMSU Transcript Request Form –Secondary School Report Form –Online Transcript Request through Naviance???

15 Transcript Request Forms  For every CUNY application you must submit: – 1 AMSU Transcript Request Form –CUNY Transcript Request Form** –CUNY Document Return Receipt** -Online Transcript Request through Naviance ** These forms are found in your Application Summary Package which you are advised to print after you complete the CUNY application.

16 Transcript Request Forms  For every SUNY application you must submit: – AMSU Transcript Request Form – 1 SUNY Counselor Form –Online Transcript Request Form through Naviance **Some SUNY’s are on the Common Application. If you apply to them through the CA then follow that procedure.

17 Teacher Recommendation Request Forms  Teachers will be submitting recommendation letters through Naviance, please send requests through Naviance.  Other teachers prefer for you to speak or meet with them in person—check with each individual teacher

19 SAT Scores  Students are responsible for sending any and all SAT scores to any college they apply to.  Please refer to: http://sat.collegeboard.org/scores/

21 HEOP/EOP/ SEEK/College Discovery  HEOP – Higher Education Opportunity Program provides supportive services and financial aid to NY state residents attending independent colleges and universities in NY state.  To be eligible for HEOP you must: –Be a NY state resident –Meet economic eligibility requirements and academic eligibility requirements –There 58 HEOP programs throughout NY state

25 Financial Aid  FAFSA –Free Application for Federal Student Aid – after January 1 st. 2016 –FAFSA4caster will help you understand your options for paying for college. Provide some basic information and we'll estimate your eligibility for federal student aid. Your estimate will be shown in the College Cost Worksheet where you can also provide estimated amounts of other student aid and savings that can go towards your college education. –http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/  CSS Profile –The PROFILE form is administered by the College Scholarship Service (CSS), the financial aid division of the College Board. 26 Financial Aid  NY State TAP –New York State's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) is the State's student financial aid agency, helping people pay for college by administering 19 student financial aid programs, including TAP, the New York Higher Education Loan Program (NYHELPs), a highly successful College Savings program, and offering guidance to students, families and counselors. –https://www.tapweb.org/totw/ https://www.tapweb.org/totw/ –There is a link at the end of the FAFSA for NY residents to complete the TAP application.

27 Reminders  All students need to upload their Resume and Brag Sheets to Naviance and submit them to the Teachers who they asked for Letters of Recommendation.
