4. We know what these signs mean because they are international symbols. They have the same meaning regardless of where you go.

5. Similarly, when you write an essay for history, political science, geography and even biology it is important that you follow a set of guidelines. There are three main types: MLA, APA and Chicago Style. See the comparison chart

7. There are two main parts: 1Footnotes/Endnotes (You will indicate where you have found your quotes or “proofs” in your essay) 2The Bibliography (lists all of the resources you have used).

8. Why do we use it? To let readers know where you found your information. It is like an address on a map! To prevent plagiarism To maintain consistency in how everyone writes
