2. CE Marking of construction products was introduced in the Construction Products Directive (CPD) in 1989. The CPD was a European Directive that seeks to remove barriers to trade and applies to all construction products permanently incorporated into ‘construction works’. This included steel products such as steel, stainless steel or aluminium sections, structural bolts, welding consumables and fabricated steel components that are used in buildings, bridges, highways and other civil engineering structures. 3. On 1 st July 2013 the CPD was replaced by another piece of EU legislation called the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). The main change is that unlike a European directive, a European regulation is mandatory in all member states. The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) requires structural steel (including stainless steel) and aluminium products to be CE marked. 5. The CPR makes it clear that CE Marking applies throughout the supply chain. It imposes certain legal requirements on all manufactures, importers and distributors who bring constructions or parts into the market.
