1. Bell Work 1. Pick up an article from the front table. 2. SURVEY the article, looking for illustrations, photographs, bold words, charts, graphs, etc. that may provide you with clues as to what the article is about. 3. On your paper, write 2 to 3 sentences predicting what you believe the article will be about. Example – “I predict that this article is about….”

3. Creating Questions With the person sitting next to you, write 2-3 QUESTIONS that an individual may find the answer to within the text. Note: W rite the questions as if you are creating an assignment for the rest of the class. And, YES, you BOTH need to write down the questions!

He states that the decision to drop the bombs was not made by President Truman, but rather a high ranking military officer. The bombs, according to Collie, did not even push Japan to end the war. Instead, he claims that the advancing Red Army, who entered the war on August 9 th, provoked the Japanese to surrender. Nevertheless, the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, providing immediate and lasting effects that prompt us to ask, “My God, what have we done?”
