ICEL He knows my name British War Cemetery “Known unto God” Revelation 2:17 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. Individual intimacy between God and me. He knows my name: Now and then

ICEL From old to new 2 Corinthians 5:17 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! Revelation 7:17 17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

ICEL Jacob Genesis 32:25-28 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. 28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.”

ICEL Double picture of great Bible characters: - The place they have in the history of God’s order. - The person from the inside: Moses’ temper. Elijah’s fear and Jacob:.. Not too nice a person. His name “ Jacob” : revering to his birth as the second of the twins, grabbing the heel of his brother. The schemer, witty and cunning: What is in there for me?... We can identify with all these characters, if not so munch with their fame, then at least with their failings.

ICEL Jacob’s hip…a lifelong mark of a man who “struggled” with God. “I do not let you go unless you bless me”. Gods blessing was a new name: “Israel”: The one who wrestled with God Jacob’s life was filled with sorrow: Loss of his wife, failure of his family, tragedy with his only daughter, Loss of his beloved son Joseph.

ICEL Genesis 43:14 As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved Shattered by life itself… Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the L ORD says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. God cares for the sick and the weary The lonely and the fearful…

ICEL He knows your name God’s tenderness: like an eagle caring for her young Deuteronomy 32:11 11 like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. John 10:3 A good shepherd caring for the flock: 3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

ICEL A new heaven and a new earth ! There comes an end to the world we know, and with it an end to injustice, suffering and death. 2 Peter 3:13 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. Revelation 21:4 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

ICEL A new name! Revelation 2:17 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. God knows our name today, and we will have a new name tomorrow!
