3 The Question  #1: Fabian has a wooden board that is 13 feet long. He uses an electric saw to cut the board into five pieces. Every cut made with this saw results in a loss of 1/8 inch in length. Fabian cuts a piece that is 5.5 feet long. He then cuts the remaining piece of board into four pieces of equal length. What is the length of each of those remaining four pieces?

4 What I Know  Fabian has a wooden board that is 13 feet long.  Every cut made with this saw results in a loss of 1/8 inch in length.  Fabian cuts a piece that is 5.5 feet long. He then cuts the remaining piece of board into four pieces of equal length.

5 My Work  I did this to see how much wood was left when Fabian cut the 5.5 foot piece of wood, because the saw takes off.125 inches First I needed to know what 1/8 equals So I divided 1 by 8 and got.125.Now that I know what 1/8 equals I can figure out how much wood was lost when Fabian cut it. 1/8=.125 5.5-.125=5.375 or5.38 13-5.38=7.62 7.62/4=1.905 or 1.9

6 My answer  The length of the 4 pieces that remain is 1.9feet
