5 Now… Junior Year Begin researching colleges and developing a list of schools of interest A list of 3-10 schools is typical Discuss college plans and finances with your family and begin exploring Register and take ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests EHS ACT: April 19 th, Free, NO writing By AUGUST 2016 you should have a final list of universities you will apply to 3-5 colleges is typical

6 Junior Year Cont… Start to think about who you would like to write your letters of recommendation for you (you may not need them) Keep your grades up! This year is EXTEREMELY important for your college admissions! Meet with college reps in the College and Career Center Sign up on Naviance. Visit Colleges

7 Summer 2016 Continue researching and building your college list Continue to visit colleges Look at essay questions Retake ACT and/or SAT if needed Preview the college applications Scholarship Search

8 Senior Year Fall Semester Attend Senior Application Night at EHS Fill out applications, write essays, request letters of recommendations and transcripts Attend college rep visits in the college and career center College Applications Workshops Every Friday in October and November Re-take SAT/ACT if necessary Apply for scholarships Deadlines!!! As early as October and November

9 Senior Year cont….. Spring Semester  Continue filling out college applications  Apply for scholarships  DO YOUR SCHOOL WORK- if your grades drop universities will be notified and your admission could be rescinded!  Fill out the FAFSA by March 1 st  Decide which college/university you wish to attend and send your deposit by May 1 st.

18 Factors Influencing Admission Decisions

19 Application Options College Application – Online through college website – May be shorter – May have less supplemental essays Common Application – Online through common app website – Over 400 colleges use the common application – May be Longer – Helpful if applying to 3 or more college who use the Common Application – Most have supplemental essays

20 Applying Options Early Decision (ED) – A binding agreement between the student and the university in which, if accepted, the student MUST attend the university – Student can only apply ED to one university Early Action (EA) – Allows a student to apply early and hear about admission decision early Regular Decision – Typically Dec., Jan., Feb. deadlines Rolling – Review complete application upon arrival – Decision is given shortly after submitting

22 NCAA Eligibility Requirements To play at a Division I or Division II college, students must register with NCAA Clearinghouse by the end of their junior year – www.eligibilitycenter.org‎

23 Naviance Students will use Naviance for: – College/scholarship searches – Creating a college list – Sending letters of recommendations and transcripts – Career Searches To log in: Go to the evergreen HS homepage: http://www.evergreencougars.net/http://www.evergreencougars.net/ Click on the “Naviance” button at the bottom of the homepage Sign in: Username = Student ID Password = 8 digit birth date (mmddyyyy) Example: March 15, 1997 is 03151997

25 Scholarships and Interest-free loans Awards available for any type of higher education Each scholarship has its own criteria specified by the donor Most based on equal parts merit and need 2014 awards = $198,000 to 88 students Awards range from $500 for one year to $22,000 for four years Average award is $3,000 Loans range from $1,000 to $3,500 All loans are renewable and interest-free Can apply for loans in years two through four if you received an award in year one.
