Similarly, sound waves move through the medium of air. As our eyes perceive the order of the waves on the pond, so do our ears comprehend the order of the sound waves. The basic elements of sound – duration, pitch, dynamics, and timbre – all correspond to the size, shape, and speed of those sound waves.
