Employee Recognition Strategy - Guiding Principles: 1. Recognize excellence in teaching, learning, research, and service to the University and the broader community 2. Recognize individual and team behaviours 3. Be fair, transparent, meaningful and simple to administer 4. Recognize contributions at all levels 5. Promote positive and respectful behaviours in the workplace 6. Help build the sense of One University Family

Promote and enhance a strong culture of recognition within the University Community at all levels. GOAL #2 Create, maintain and enable a coherent set of formal and informal recognition practices and guidelines which support the University’s strategic plan. GOAL #3 Improve University wide awareness of recognition opportunities.

Course Title 25-Apr-17 Recognition at the University What comes to mind when you think of recognition at the University of Calgary? A question to get a bit of dialogue going, as well as a bit of research for those of us that are involved in recognition planning and programming. Question: When you think of recognition what comes to mind? Answer: - May get a laundry list of ideas, current activities Review for themes? Are there examples of formal/tangible (events, gifts) informal (thank yous, etc..), what are examples of university wide vs. faculty/unit/department specific?

The first of our new employee recognition initiatives are eNotes and Print Cards. The intent behind these notes and cards is: Peer peer recognition and appreciation Manager employee recognition Employee manager recognition University employees at all levels told us they want quick and simple ways to communicate appreciation to their reports and colleagues. Since May 2015 product launch: 404 Receivers 251 Senders

16 Key Messages eNotes and Print Cards: Print cards and eNotes are available for a variety of appreciation/recognition moments and occasions Recognition cards contribute to building a strong culture of peer-to-peer recognition Easy to keep on hand and re-order when needed
