1 POD/Geoid splinter Wednesday March 14, 2007 Morning and Afternoon J.P. Berthias – J. Ries Ocean Topography Science Team Meeting - Hobart, Australia – March 2007

2 2 POD after Venice … before Hobart ■POD plan was to be ready to start producing orbits with new standards by Fall 2006  “availability of ITRF2005 and time variable gravity model set the time table” ■ITRF2005 arrived … with difficulties  a lot of work went into its evaluation  new issues were raised ■reprocessing of early cycles with GDR-b standards  postponed the need for the “new” standards  opens the possibility to revise choices made in Venice

3 Ocean Topography Science Team Meeting - Hobart, Australia – March 2007 3 Goals for Hobart POD/geoid splinter ■Evaluate quality of GDR-b orbits ■Evaluate impact of ITRF2005 and adopt it as is or with modifications ■Review recent progress in Gravity and Geoid models with a focus on Time Variable Gravity ■Review contribution of orbit to the overall error budget ■Collect inputs on the Jason-3 orbit choice issue from the POD point of view

4 Ocean Topography Science Team Meeting - Hobart, Australia – March 2007 4 Splinter schedule ■Two part splinter  morning session during Splinter session 2  Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 12:30  afternoon session during Splinter session 3  Wednesday afternoon from 16:30 to 18:00  after poster session ■morning and afternoon sessions will be held in room TASMAN A
