4 The President’s Term and Salary 22 nd Amendment Two terms on the President Salary and Benefits $400,000 salary with 100,000 travel allowance Air Force One Free medical, dental, and health care Live in the White House Lifetime pension ($148,400/ year) Free office space and services Spouses are eligible for pensions Do not seek office for compensation

5 Presidential Qualifications Constitutional Qualifications Natural-born U.S. citizen At least 35 years old Resident of the U.S. for 14 years Personal Qualities Experience in government Money Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002  Attempted to limit money received from individual donors Moderate beliefs

6 Presidential Succession Established with 25 th Amendment Section 1: President is removed, Vice President shall become president Section 2: Vice Presidency is vacant, President can nominate a new one Vice President is next in line Followed by Speaker of the House

7 Presidential Disability Vice President takes over in case of disability Notify Congress President Vice President and a majority of the cabinet Resume powers by notifying Congress

8 The Vice President’s Role Two Constitutional Duties Preside over the Senate and vote in the event of a tie Decide when a president is disabled and act as president Level of involvement depends on the president
