7. Holden is a typical teenager because he displays behaviors that are representative of adolescents whose brains are still developing. Most teenagers struggle and worry about “fitting in” with their peers. In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield is portrayed as an ostracized and alienated teenager. Holden’s behavior was troubling to 1950’s society that stressed conformity.
