3 What is our School Vision? Milbrook Elementary School is committed to providing a meaningful and rigorous academic program that fosters continuous growth for all students. Students, teachers, parents and the community work together as a team, by building strong relationships, in order to provide a safe, productive and positive learning environment. Milbrook Elementary School teachers empower students to take responsibility for their own learning. The entire school community is dedicated to preparing students to become globally competitive citizens in a culturally diverse world.

4 What is Title I? Title I is a program started by the federal government to improve the academic performance of economically disadvantaged children. The purpose of title is “to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments”. Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch.

5 How are Title I Funds Utilized? Title I funds are used to: create smaller classes support the hiring of additional teachers, paraprofessionals and the parent service coordinator provide additional training for school staff support parental involvement activities fund supplemental teaching methods and materials purchase a Parent Lending Library

6 Title I Documents District Level PIP- informs parents of the ways in which BCPS seeks to support its parent and build strong partnerships. School Compact- outlines the shared responsibility for student achievement between the School, Parents, and Students. Parent Involvement Plan (PIP)- informs parents of the many ways they can become involved in the education process.

7 Activities for the 2015-2016 Year Pikesville Library Night Magnet School Information Night Title I Meeting PTA Meetings Math and Reading Night Stem Fair Educational Game Night Monthly Coffee Chats Barnes and Noble Night Concerts American Education Week What other activities or workshops would you like to see?

8 Parent Involvement and Rights Participate in Annual school-level meetings held with parent representatives to review, provide feedback, evaluate, and make revisions regarding district and school-level parent involvement plans and funds. Right to Know if your child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly qualified. Parent Surveys- provide us feedback on how we can better serve you, your children and build stronger partnerships.

9 How Can Parents Be More Involved? Create a home environment that fosters learning. Homework Tips and Tutoring Resources Parent Lending Library Volunteering at the school Provide us with feedback on ways we can strengthen our relationship
