ALGORITHMS AND PROGRAMMING Unit 11.1A:

Starter activity - Event Driven  Imagine an icon on your desktop and list the events that are taking place;  Right click  Left click  Double click  Hover

Lesson Objectives 1. know the basics of linear non-linear programming 2. describe programming languages, dividing them into types: low-level and high-level (algorithmic, procedural, object-oriented) 3. know the basics of parallel programming

Programming a robot  One of you is going to act as a robot.  In your groups, come up with smallest set of commands need to get the robot to pick up and put paper, into a bin.  You will have 7 minutes to prepare this task  The importance here is for you here is to find a small instruction set to solve a complex problem.

high level & low level languages  Definition of each type of language  Comparison of each type of language  Uses and examples of how these are used or have been used in the real world

high level & low level languages  In pairs, compare high level to low level languages.  Using the resources given to you and anything you can find, create a presentation, slideshow, dialogue, mind map or even a song to explore this topic.  http://www.teach-ict.com/gcse_computing/ocr/GCSE_A451_topics.html http://www.teach-ict.com/gcse_computing/ocr/GCSE_A451_topics.html  http://www.teach-ict.com/as_as_computing/ocr/H447/F453_home.html http://www.teach-ict.com/as_as_computing/ocr/H447/F453_home.html  http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/A-level_Computing/AQA http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/A-level_Computing/AQA

single and parallel processors  In pairs, compare high level to low level languages.  Using the resources given to you and anything you can find, create a presentation, slideshow, dialogue, mind map or even a song to explore this topic.  http://www.commoncraft.com/videolist?qt-cc_video_quicktab=0#qt- cc_video_quicktab http://www.commoncraft.com/videolist?qt-cc_video_quicktab=0#qt- cc_video_quicktab  http://www.teach-ict.com/gcse_new/gcse_ict_home.html http://www.teach-ict.com/gcse_new/gcse_ict_home.html  http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/A- level_Computing/AQA/Computer_Components,_The_Stored_Program_Con cept_and_the_Internet http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/A- level_Computing/AQA/Computer_Components,_The_Stored_Program_Con cept_and_the_Internet
