Learning about Exposure – The Exposure Triangle Graphic Design: Digital Photography ISO the exposure triangle shutter speed aperture

The Three Elements are: Graphic Design: Digital Photography 1. ISO – the measure of a digitalISO camera sensor’s sensitivity to light 2. Aperture – the size of the opening in theAperture lens when a picture is taken 3. Shutter Speed – the amount of timeShutter Speed that the shutter is open

Graphic Design: Digital Photography Most importantly – a change in one of the elements will impact the others. This means that you can never really isolate just one of the elements alone but always need to have the others in the back of your mind. ISO the exposure triangle shutter speedaperture

Exposure Graphic Design: Digital Photography Exposure is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium (photographic film or image sensor) during the process of taking a photograph.lightphotographic filmimage sensorphotograph

Graphic Design: Digital Photography "Correct" exposure "Correct" exposure may be defined as an exposure that achieves the effect the photographer intended. Optimum Exposure

Overexposed Graphic Design: Digital Photography A photograph may be described as overexposed when it has a loss of highlight detail, that is, when important bright parts of an image are "washed out" or effectively all white.

Graphic Design: Digital Photography Underexposed underexposed A photograph may be described as underexposed when it has a loss of shadow detail, that is, when important dark areas are "muddy" or indistinguishable from black

What is ISO? International Standardization Organization Graphic Design: Digital Photography In traditional (film) photography ISO (or ASA) was the indication of how sensitive a film was to light. It was measured in numbers (you’ve probably seen them on films – 100, 200, 400, 800 etc). The lower the number the lower the sensitivity of the film and the finer the grain in the shots you’re taking.

Graphic Design: Digital Photography In Digital Photography ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The same principles apply as in film photography – the lower the number the less sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain.

Graphic Design: Digital Photography Grain – film is the same as Noise – is digital
