5 Curriculum We have lots of great topics to teach in Reception and we look forward to planning a fun and stimulating curriculum for your children, which will cover both Prime and Specific areas. 8 Being Independent! We changed into PE kits for the first time this week! It took nearly 30 minutes with 3 adults helping them! 9 Reading Each child will be bringing home a reading record. We will record which book your child is bringing home. Please add your own comments when you read at home with your child.

10 Reading  Time and support  Not just school books  Read longer books to develop language  Visit the Library Your child will be given a reading book on their set reading day. 11 Homework is used to consolidate the pupils learning. Each half term, we will be sending home a ‘Homework Grid.’ It will include activities linked to our topic theme and different subject areas. We expect that our parents will support their child in the completion of homework activities. They can be completed in any order. A quiet, learning environment is encouraged. 12 The children have daily phonics sessions in Reception. During these sessions the children practise reading and writing new sounds (phonemes). We will be sending home information about the sounds covered each week and activities linked to this.

13 Uniform, jewellery, valuables  Correct school uniform.  Hair should be tied back.  Clothing and equipment should be clearly named.  Jewellery/ valuables should not be brought to school.  We go outside in all weather so please make sure your child has appropriate clothing. Lost Property!

14 Communication  After school  Mornings in an emergency!  Make an appointment through the school office  Parent consultation evening Communication is a two way process. 16 Magic Moments  We want to celebrate the successes your child has at school and at home.  If your child has a ‘magic moment’ at home please send in a photo for our board.  Certificiates  Attending special events  Completing a challenge e.g. riding a bike with two wheels

17 Parental Support We welcome offers of parental support within the classroom or school. If you would like to volunteer some time to help out in class on a regular basis, please contact Mrs Allnutt in the School Office to complete a DBS form.
