3. What is a scale used for? Measures distance between places on a map (in miles) Looks like a ruler Ex. 1 inch = 100 miles

4. What does the title tell us? Explains the purpose or type of map. “What it is about”

5. What is the function of the compass rose? Used to find direction on a map

6. What are the cardinal directions on a map? North (N) South (S) East (E) West (W)

7. What are the intermediate directions on a map? Northeast (NE) Southeast (SE) Southwest (SW) Northwest (NW)
