1 6.5 Question 1 ?#1 Why did Byzantine emperor Leo lll forbid the use of icons in 730? How did the pope react to Leo’s order? Leo III thought people were wrongly worshiping the images there for banned them. The pope claimed supreme religious ruler over the Christians and excommunicated the emperor. Then the Empire Lifted it’s ban On icons.
