2 1863  The Union army loses in the Battle of Chancellorsville  Stonewall Jackson was shot by his own men here! Died shortly after.

3 Summer of 1863  Vicksburg: Capturing this city (located on the Mississippi River) cut the Confederacy in half!  Gettysburg: Three day battle in which 50,000 people were killed in Pennsylvania  This would be the last time the South ever tried to fight in Northern territory

4 1864  Lincoln gives Ulysses S. Grant control of the entire Union army

5 May, 1864  William Tecumseh Sherman began his “March to the Sea.”

6 November, 1864  Lincoln wins reelection

7 December, 1864  Sherman’s troops capture Savannah, GA
