(topic, time, place) My project will argue… …how and why -- the context before and at the time that influenced the change agent (social, economic, political and cultural factors) …what was the resulting change in the short term (impact) …why the change is important to remember and understand (the “so what?” factor or significance)

Growing Chicago population, migration and concerns about the health of people living in a grimy urban setting. Cycling clubs, competitions, conflicts with municipal authorities, changing gender ideas. Bicycles revolutionized ideas about transportation and leisure in an increasingly urban and industrial America.
