2  Turning Points I.Battle of Stalingrad Dec 1942 a. German army destroyed. II.Battle of El Alamein, 1943, Allies push Germans out of Africa into Italy. Italy the liberated by allies. III.Normandy Invasion, June 6, 1944, Allied offensive toward Germany. Liberate France. IV.Battle of the Bulge, Dec 1944, German offensive stopped by Allies. Germany surrenders.

3  War in the Pacific I.Battle of Midway, turning point, Allies defeat Japanese. II.Allies begin “island hopping” strategy, liberating each Pacific island from Japan.

4  War in the Pacific, continued. III.Hiroshima, Aug 6, 1945, atomic bomb dropped on city. Second atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki. Japan surrenders.

5  Effects of WWII I.Nazi war criminals judged at Nuremberg Trials. II.Areas of Europe and Asia devastated from bombings and war. a. People homeless. a. People homeless. b.
