2  HPU is an experiential education Be Extraordinary!

3  High Point University is located in High Point, NC (small city).  It is 20 minutes from the Greensboro airport. Shuttle service is provided to all students free of charge to and from all major NC airports 24 hours/day.  There are approximately 4000 undergrad students  The freshman retention rate is over 80% Fast Facts

4  All students have a faculty advisor and success coach  20% of students are in state, 80% out of state  Students come from 47 countries  19% non white  Founded by the methodist church but not governed by it.  Average class size is 17  272 full time faculty members Fast Facts

7  There are 47 majors and 46 minors offered  The most popular major is business  Unique majors: interior design (top 10 program in the country), sales (under business administration), interactive gaming and game design, 5 year program in strategic communication, 5 year BA & MA in elementary ed, masters in athletic training, masters in physician assistant, exercise science, doctor of physical therapy (starting in 2017), doctor of pharmacy (starting in 2016) Majors

8  12 pre professional programs offered: dentistry, medicine, ministry, physical therapy, physician assistant, engineering, law, pharmacy, vet medicine, athletic training, occupational therapy and art therapy  HPU teaches students to think critically, write well, communicate well, and be relevant. 10  All freshmen take a seminar class with the president of the college.  To qualify for the honors program students must have a 1250-1600 (m & v) SAT or 28-36 ACT score and a 3.45-4.0 unweighted GPA.  Undergrads do research!  No teaching assistants!  Students are encouraged to start internships freshman year. They may have 6 or 7 internships before they graduate. Special programs

11  HPU is on the Common application.  They received 11,000 applications in 2014/15  26% of students applied ED  60% were EA  4% were ED2  10% were regular decision  ED students get first priority in housing and which orientation they attend (there are 4). Application info

12  Grades are always the most important factor in an admission decision. SAT/ACT scores are the second important. Send all scores as they “super score.” #3 most important factor is demonstrated leadership. Be passionate about one thing rather than 10. They do pay attention to demonstrated interest!!  Average accepted GPA for HPU is 3.3 (Hingham average accepted GPA is 2.96)  Average SAT (math and verbal) is 1108 (Hingham average for HPU is 1089)  Average ACT score is 24 (Hingham average for HPU is 23). 13  Students are recommended to take (in high school) 4 years of English, 4 years of math, 3 years of science, 3 years of social studies, and 3 years of the same foreign language (only 2 years are required).  They do recalculate GPA.  Top cross applications are with Elon, UNC and Quinnipiac. 14  Tuition, room and board: $45,000  At least 85% of students are on some financial aid. They do not meet demonstrated need.  Admission decisions are need blind.  There is no separate application for the presidential scholarship program.  The presidential is $9000-20,000, the HPU fellowship is $6,000-9,000 and the HPU scholarship is $2,000-5,000.  A study abroad stipend is included in scholarships from $500-1000 Cost/Financial Aid

15  HPU is one of only 3 private universities in NC to have a full time doctor as director of the student health center.  There is an office for disability services  Starfish program where grades are monitored for students not doing well academically  Student success program freshman year Services

16  HPU is a division 1 school for athletics  Athletes can go to the HPU website during their junior year and fill out a form with their info to get noticed by a coach. About 75% of athletes are recruited.  Club sports are big too. No football.  Basketball, lacrosse and soccer are their most popular sports. Athletics

18  Every week HPU offers a variety events from Monday movies in the Extraordinaire Cinema, Wednesday Night Live events such as coffee houses or karaoke, and venture trips off campus to different places in the surrounding community. All activities are complimentary to our students! Extraordinaire CinemaExtraordinaire Cinema  There are many clubs and activities available to students.  They have greek life, both fraternities and sororities.  A minister on campus does a 45-50 min service every Wednesday night for students which is nondenominational. 21  Many dinning options are available from a grill, to a panera type place, to chik-fil-a, starbucks, to a regular cafeteria.  The best dinning option is the steakhouse on campus where students can eat once a week. Food

24  93% of all students live on campus, 99% of freshmen do.  1-5 tier system for rooms. They come fully furnished. Most are suites with bathroom. Some include a living room area and kitchen.  Each community (dorm) will meet monthly to discuss living standards. This is new for fall 2015. Dorms
