1 The Amur River By Wade Allen

2 The Amur River is located in the countries of Russia, China and Mongolia.
The source of the river is a blending of the Argun River and the Shilka River. The Amur flows across Russia and forms a natural boundary between Russia and China.

3 The Amur River flows into the Pacific Ocean.
It is one single estuary. The estuary is located at the east edge of Russia. Opposite this river mouth lies a very large Russian island called Sakhalin.

4 The Amur River is 2,744 miles long.
The Amur River is the ninth longest in the world . This River is the largest un-dammed river of the world. From May to November when the river is free of ice the Amur is navigable for it’s entire length.

5 The Amur River starts in the hills of Northeast China bordering Russia .
It slowly makes a great arc to the southeast ,receiving many tributaries . Then the river spreads out into a braided character. Then the river valley narrows before flowing to the sea.

6 The main tributaries are the Shilka, Zeya, Bureya, Amgun, Argun, Huma, Songhua, and Ussuri Rivers.
These tributaries are in Mongolia, Russia and China. The tributaries form the valleys for the Amur River. Tributaries make the Amur River bigger and change its shape.

7 The first permanent bridge across the Amur, called the Khabarovsk bridge, was completed in The current bridge is 2,197 meters long. The Amur River has no dams. Boats can travel up and down the entire length of the river. It is the longest river without a dam. There are no waterfalls along the Amur River.

8 The major cities along the Amur River are Blagoveschensk, Heihe, Tongjiang, Khabarovsk, Amursk, Komsomolsk and Nikolayevsk. Tongjiang is the business center of Hoiwon Prefecture. This Chinese city has a population of over 100,000 people. Nikolayevsk is located at the estuary where the Amur flows into the sea.

9 The people who live by the river fish for food and make things out of fish skin.
The Amur is also used for drinking, washing, and watering crops. It is very important to their daily lives. People travel to other cities by boat in the river but only from May to November when it isn’t frozen.
