2 Alliteration repetition of initial sounds of words
Example: dark, dreary day

3 Assonance repetition of vowel sounds Example: wool, wood,
drum, thunder

4 Form The way the poem is arranged
Examples: Stanzas, Concrete Poem, Haiku

5 Concrete Poem Poem that LOOKS like its subject

6 Stanza Group of lines that are clustered together- similar to a paragraph in other forms of writing.

7 Narrative Poem Poem that tells a story

8 Lyric Poem Poem that was originally set to music-
Expresses an isolated idea, feeling, image

9 Rhythm Number of beats per line of a poem
Causes a sing-song type of sound

10 Repetition Repeating words, phrases, or even stanzas for emphasis or effect.

11 Rhyme Words that sound alike (Dive, Hive)

12 Couplet Two successive lines that rhyme
Is the moon tired? She looks so pale Within her misty veil: She scales the sky from east to west, And takes no rest

13 Ballad Tells a story in rhythmic verse, usually rhymes.

14 Sonnet 14 line poem Rhymes Often love poems

15 Elegy Mournful lyric poem Death, loss

16 Ode Lyric poem of praise
Often formal, recognizing someone or something
