4 Hinduism: The Basics No single founder or sacred text Largely classified as polytheistic, but the concept of god is much more complex ◦ Possibly henotheistic, pantheistic, or even monotheistic All powerful force known as Brahman ◦ Source of all matter ◦ Manifested in all matter

5 Hinduism: The Basics Atman is the “true self” or soul ◦ The eternal self Atman is not distinct or separate from Brahman ◦ Human error/ignorance separates the two The goal is to unite atman and brahman ◦ Realize atman is brahman
