1.ABSTRACT: This paper describes the design of an innovative and low cost self- assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of a home appliances by using advanced voice commands of the disabled people. This proposed system will provide an alternative to the physically challenged people with quadriplegics who is permanently unable to move their limbs (but who is able to speak and hear) and home appliances using their voices to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life. The performance of this ARM controller based and voice integrated design is evaluated in terms of accuracy and velocity in various environments. The results show that it could be part of an assistive technology for the disabled persons without any third person’s assistance.

2.OBJECTIVE: If a person is handicapped he is dependent on other person for his day to day work like transport, food, orientation etc. So a voice operated wheel chair is developed which will operate automatically on the commands from the handicapped user for movement purpose.

4.METHODOLOGY: This project is an innovative and low cost self-assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of a home appliances by using advanced voice commands of the disabled people. This project is developed for the people who are physically disabled to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life. The main modules in this project are Voice input HM 2007 IC, ARM controller unit and LCD display and Xbee. The transmitter will be there with people who are physically disabled and the receiver will be there at the device. The transmitter module has voice input, ARM controller and Xbee as a communication media. The receiver has Xbee, ARM controller and devices.

If a Operator gives a voice signal to make the device to ON or OFF, that information will be given to ARM controller, then the ARM controller analyses the signal and sends information to the receiver which is present at the device end via Xbee. At the receiver the Xbee receives a signal which was transmitted from transmitter and sends that to the ARM controller. After receiving the signal the ARM controller will switch ON or OFF the devices based on the user voice signal which was received from the transmitter.

5.ADVANTAGES AND DISAVANTAGES: ADVANTAGES:  A handicapped person with voice can use this and become Independent.  Very rapidly changing input can be easily recognized due to Hm 2007 voice kit.  Requires less wiring because of Xbee section.  Less Hardware require i.e. compact.  Economical.  Reduce manpower.  User friendly.

DISADVANTAGES:  One time investment cost.  Very rapidly changing input cannot be easily recognized due to Hm 2007 voice kit.

6.APPLICATIONS:  This project can be implemented in Defense, Hospitals, Schools, Companies etc…..  This project can be implemented in industrial applications.  This project can be implemented to control the voice operated wheelchair.

7.CONCLUSION: We achieved our objective without any hurdles i.e. Device control based on the Voice Signal Using ARM and Xbee. As this project is based on micro-controller(ARM7LPC2148) and Xbee technology is used to transmit data this can be of great use for the people who are physically handicapped and to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life.
